Restored 1902 Rambler Returns to Walter P. Chrysler Museum
After a year-long restoration process requiring hundreds of man hours, a 1902 Rambler - the oldest vehicle in the Walter P. Chrysler Museum collection - has returned to the Auburn Hills, Mich. institution's first floor gallery.
Restored to original specifications,
Chrysler's Highland Park restoration staff began
the tedious process by completely disassembling
the vehicle. Internal and external parts
were painstakingly researched to determine how
to recondition salvageable pieces and how to replicate
unrepairable or missing parts. Chrysler's
metal shop provided fabrication support.
The Rambler's wooden body was shipped to The Wooden-Noga, in LaPort, Ind. for repair and, upon return, underwent massive sanding and painting processes as did the vehicle's frame, suspension and other exterior parts. - Continued -
